The Digital 3D Correlation System Q-400 is an optical measuring instrument for true full field, non-contact and three-dimensional analysis of displacements and strains on components and specimens. It can be used on any material without restrictions.

Quantitative true full field Investigation
The Q-400 system is used for determination of three-dimensional material parameters in tensile, torsion, bending or combined tests and for strain analysis in component tests for fatigue investigations. Additionally high speed deformation measurement, fracture mechanics and many other applications are covered with Q-400.

User friendly System
The robust software is designed to be used in a very intuitive way. The standard HILIS Illumination is part of the system and provides cold and extremely homogenous light and thus supplies excellent conditions for measurement. An easy calibration procedure reduces measurement time.

Measuring Principle


A stochastic pattern is applied onto the surface of the test object. The surface is observed with two sensors. First the contour is measured, then in each captured image homologous points of the stochastic structure are identified using a specific pattern matching algorithm.

All sensor parameters are determined by a fast and easy calibration procedure - a very practical and simple way by positioning a calibration plate in front of the cameras. The achieved calibration accuracy is displayed online meanwhile the calibration.
The 3D position of each object point is determined by triangulation performed by the software Istra 4D. If image sequences are recorded during the displacement of the object, the deformation of each object point is calculated automatically.
The measuring resolution is depending on the field of view and is typically 10-5 of the measuring field, resp. 0.1% strain.
The system can be used for objects of any size by simply changing the optical lenses.

Various extension and application accessories allow the easy use of the Digital 3D-Correlation System Q-400 in different experiments.
